In the world of cell phones, there is a never-ending demand for a phone that’s both affordable and loaded with features, however, rarely do you ever find a phone that meets both of those demands.
Back in May when Samsung Introduced the M510, it promised to be just that; a phone that’s affordable and loaded with features. This phone includes features such as bluetooth, a 1.3 megapixel camera, expandable microSD slot, speakerphone, SprintTV enabled, GPS, and voice dialing. It looks good too!
I have been testing the M510 for over 3 weeks and I will tell you right now, I am surprised with the phone’s quality. One would expect for its price ($49.99 with 2 year contract), you would end up with just a decent phone, but not a great phone.
The call quality is fantastic! It’s one of the few phones where I can actually hear the person I am talking to without straining, and one of the few phones that has a speakerphone that doesn’t crackle. On my Motorola RAZR and on my T-Mobile Dash, when I use the speakerphone, it crackles (more so on the RAZR).
The phone is super light and really thin, but unlike most thin phones on the market, this one has a unique look to it. It seemed that a lot of thin phones were going with a rectangle look, but the M510 went with an oval look that’s rather unique and cool. It may not be appealing to some, but at least my girlfriend and I liked it.
When the phone is open, it’s easy to use and navigate the menus. The user interface is straight forward and everything is easy to find. With the On Demand menu, you can keep up to date with all your local news, weather, and sports with one single click.
Texting is also easy with the M510! I had no problem creating or replying to text messages. You can also use VoiceSMS, which allows you to send voice messages (person who receives the message has to call a number to listen to the message).
Like with many Sprint phones, the M510 is compatible with Sprint TV, which allows you to have access to a large list of mobile TV channels. If you love music you can also access the Sprint Music store.
Overall, I was really impressed with the M510. It’s not the greatest phone on the market, but for its price tag and all the features it has, it’s an excellent phone. For those reason, we award Samsung and the M510 our 5 Star Editor’s Choice Award.
