It would be cheaper for me just to use my current text messaging plan (Unlimited texts to Canada/US-based mobile phones for $6.67 Canadian) than to use this service.. $40 for 1 to a couple megabytes isn’t worth it.. for this
Hey - i read your blog and checked it out - you’re right, it’s not exactly free.
But im in Singapore our data rate is way cheaper here then SMS (actually, across most of the countries in asia that i’ve been to), so i think i could send like 25 messages with yoober, for the same cost as 1 sms with my carrier Singtel!
Anyway, prob they need to focus on countries where data is cheaper then SMS - sounds like it’s not the case where you come from!

Thanks lily for that Info, I wasn’t aware the data rates were more expensive in Asia than here in the US
Uliminated Data plan here is 29.99
Unlimited Txting 15 dollars (10 dollars some providers)
I dont know if this will help yoober users but there was this article i found on the web about peekamo. i know for a fact that peekamo is free but it also has a pretty cool concept.

Hey - actually im on Yoober and i think it rocks!!!
Don’t know what your complaining about - My data cost is way cheaper then SMS, and i get 1MB free as part of my standard contract (that’s pretty common in this part of the world) - so i do get to enjoy Yoober free.
The website tour also makes it pretty obvious that users need to have data support!!! But maybe their website was different before i joined.

Today I recieved a press release in my inbox, and like always I read them and decided whether they warrant a post or not. Today I received one from a company called Yoober, and in the press release they promise free texting etc.
So I read the press release and visit their website to see what the catch is, and while there really is no catch you do need a data plan to use their supposed free text technology.
Basically you download their software and send messages to friends who are also using their software. They send the messages over the Internet. But you do not incur any texting charges. WOW Free texting!!! Yeah right.
The Yoober software uses your data plan to send the messages and data plans tend to cost just as much if not more than text plans.
The CEO of Yoober claims to be a texting addict who wants to make the Telco’s suffer by offering a free Texting alternative, but I think his software would just bring in more money to telco’s because it uses the more expensive data plans they offer.
Yoober does not offer free Texting, it just piggy backs on a more expensive service.
