Nokia wants to help save energy and this beautiful world we live on, so they have added energy saving mobile alerts to their phones.
Owners of the new Nokia 1200, Nokia 1208 and the Nokia 1650 which were announced last week, will receive an alert to unplug their phone from the charger when the battery is fully charge. Nokia believes that if enough people follow the advice of the message, enough energy to power 85,000 homes will be saved each year.
Kirsi Sormunen, Vice-President of Environmental Affairs at Nokia said, “Around two-thirds of the energy used by a mobile phone is lost when it is unplugged after charging but the charger itself is left in a live socket. We want to reduce this waste and are working on reducing to an absolute minimum the amount of energy our chargers use. The new alerts also play an important role, encouraging people to help us in this goal by unplugging their chargers.”
Nokia and other cell phone makers have agreed to make various changes to their phones in order to make them more energy efficient. Nokia is the first to implement the mobile alerts.
Nokia plans to add the alerts to all future phones.
