US Spending more on Cell Phones than Landlines?
Wednesday, December 19, 2007

According to the Assosiated Press, a lot of Americans are ditching their landlines for cellphones and I will raise my hand and say I have one of those many.

Last year government data showed that on average Americans spent $524 USD on cellphone service a year and $542 on regular landline service, but with more people ditching landlines and major wireless carriers indicating that Americans are spending more than $524 USD on cell service, will 2007 be the first time that Cellphone spending eclipses landline spending?

I personally know people who don’t even have a landline, LaIndia for example just has a cellphone, her sisters also just have cellphones, my sisters and mother just have cellphones and I just have a cellphone. Some of my neighbors just have cellphones too, and if you really think about it, if you put what you pay for your landline towards your cellphone bill, you can add an extra 1000 to 3000 minutes to your plan or more features and still save money.

Just a side note, when you count corporate spending, Cellphone spending surpassed landline spending seven years ago.
